Have More Fun

Unfortuately this week has been anything but fun! Trying to complete an assignment and coping with a tooth infection (which brought me back from my training residential), I also experienced a very upsetting cardiac arrest event at work (an incredibly rare event).
Today was set aside for more assignment work and a follow up dental appointment - not much opportunity for fun to be found. Sometimes as much as we want a bit of fun there is just no let up- no chance for recreation or just to let our hair down. I'm lucky because I know it won't be that long until I get some respite.
Whilst this week has been incredibly challenging it's also been really affirming.  The teamwork at the arrest was fantastic and through those events, and unpacking it all with my spiritual director, it confirmed for me that I'm working where I want to be.
There was further affirmation yesterday when I spent time with the Wythenshawe hospital  chaplaincy team. I spent time with dementia patients, on neonatal ICU and on the Mental Health unit. It was such a privilege to chat to people and hear a little of their stories and see what gave them hope.
Life is certainly not all fun and games but it is rich and varied, often sad, but in the midst of it all is that hope.

Psalm 16:11
You show me the path of life.
   In your presence there is fullness of joy;
in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

Have more fun

Blog delay until this morning- I was far too busy having fun!
This task marked our second St Michael's coordinated LLLL attack- we decided to meet up for boardgames and nibbles in our parish room. So, ok, that's not everyone's idea of fun, but it's our idea of fun and I for one had a lovely time.
There was Junior Monopoly, Creationary, Ticket to Ride (new to me but recommended) interspersed with pizza, nibbles and ice cream.
I didn't let the fun stop when I got home either! Usually we have to watch DVDs by committee but the kids went to bed and Mike had work to do so the dog and I curled up with The Great Gatsby.
Fun and fellowship are incredibly important- who would want to be part of a religion that takes itself too seriously? Or doesn't try and foster a sense of community? Of course there are things which must be solemn and sacred but good humour gives you perspective, and is one of God's greatest gifts.

Have More Fun

Doing something fun should be quite straightforward but finding time to even spend a few moments having fun was close to impossible, but not quite.
With a poorly boy at home, a house to clean, Mother's Day preparations to finish, meals to prepare, swimming lessons and meetings it felt like no fun would be had in the Jenky household. I told J that if we tidied up in the living room we could play F1 Race Stars on the X-box, but we just ran out of time.
Mike and I had to drag the kids along to a meeting this evening so J took his DS and Faith took my old phone and played the word search game. I've just played about 10 (or was it 20..?) Rounds of Bubble Mania- which really is my idea of fun!
Things I've learned this week; I'm not very good at relaxing or having fun. Oh- but I did say hi to a neighbour today!
